Senate Concurrent Resolution 568

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE DEDICATED SERVICE OF SISTER FANNIE L. MCGEE JACKSON AND CONGRATULATING HER UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT.

     WHEREAS, Sister Fannie L. McGee Jackson was honored with a retirement celebration on February 2, 2002; and

     WHEREAS, this celebration was in recognition of over thirty years of service to the people of Mississippi through Community Action Agencies; and

     WHEREAS, she was born in Hinds County, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, she and her late husband, Judge Marvin Jackson, were blessed with six children:  Charles H. Jackson, Judge Marvin Jackson, Virginia Jackson Terry, Denise Jackson, Lawrence Alexander Jackson and Derrick Jackson; and

     WHEREAS, she adopted one son, Cornell Slaughter, and reared a nephew, Vernon Bozeman, and a niece, Barbara Johnson Ojelida; and

     WHEREAS, she graduated from Alexander Colored High School in Brookhaven, Mississippi, and received a scholarship to Jackson College, where she received a certificate in Music; and

     WHEREAS, she began her service in the late 1960's with Community Action Agencies from which the Hinds County Project and the Terry Community Service were created; and

     WHEREAS, her commitment to the service of others is evidenced by the numerous agencies she gave of her time and talents by faithfully serving on the following boards:  Central Mississippi Legal Services, Hinds County Project Head Start, Jackson-Hinds Comprehensive Health Center, Central Mississippi Family Health Center, Central Mississippi Planning and Development District, Golden Key Senior Citizen Center, Tri-County Senior Citizens Board and Hinds County Public Schools PTSA Advisory Council; and

     WHEREAS, she is also a member of the local chapter of the N.A.A.C.P., Friends of Terry committee and recipient of the Honorary Colonel Award from Governor Bill Waller and Governor Bill Allain; and

     WHEREAS, Sister Fannie L. McGee Jackson is a born-again Christian and is a faithful member of the Collis Hill Church of Christ Holiness, U.S.A., Terry, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, Sister Fannie L. McGee Jackson has served throughout the district as President of the Christian Women Willing Workers, District Treasurer for the Christian Women Willing Workers, Sunday School Teacher, President of the Senior Choir, First Vice President of United Christian Women Mission, and as a member of the Kitchen Committee, Building Committee and the Wisdom Team; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to commend the contributions and dedicated service of the citizens of the State of Mississippi:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That

we do hereby commend Sister Fannie L. McGee Jackson for her dedicated service and contributions to her community and state and congratulate her upon the occasion of her retirement and wish her continued success in her endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Sister Fannie L. McGee Jackson.
