Senate Concurrent Resolution 552

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE COLLINS HIGH SCHOOL "TIGERS" FOOTBALL TEAM AND COACH BRUCE MERCHANT FOR THEIR STATE 3A CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Collins High School "Tigers" Football Team finished its spectacular 2001 season with 13 wins against only 2 losses and won the State 3A Championship; and

WHEREAS, the team produced many individual honors as follows: Quentin Sullivan and Terrance White were named to the 3A All-State Team, and Quentin Sullivan and Corey Clark were named to The Clarion-Ledger All-State Team; and

WHEREAS, the team was ably led by Coach Bruce Merchant, whose assistant coaches are Thomas Bender, Kevin Jackson and Adam Thompson; and

WHEREAS, on the road to the State Championship, the "Tigers" won the Region 6 Championship and the South Mississippi Championship; and

WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize the outstanding accomplishment of this dedicated group of student athletes, who bring honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Collins High School "Tigers" Football Team and Coach Bruce Merchant for their State 3A Football Championship, and wish them continued success in their future athletic and academic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to the Collins High School Football Team and Coach Merchant, be forwarded to the Principal of Collins High School and be made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
