Senate Concurrent Resolution 524

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE SENATOBIA HIGH SCHOOL LADY WARRIORS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR THEIR PHENOMENAL 1996-1997 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE CLASS 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the Senatobia High School Lady Warriors Basketball Team finished the 1996-1997 season with an awesome record of 36 wins and only 3 losses; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Warriors did extremely well during tournament play this season, winning the Horn Lake Tournament, the Pontotoc Tournament, the District II Class 3A Championship, the North Mississippi Class 3A Championship and the Class 3A State Championship; and

     WHEREAS, several of these Lady Warriors received special recognition for their hard work, dedication and superior play this season, including the naming of Dana Wages, Mandy Putt, Bethany Dukes, Felicia Newson and Betsy Burkhead, All District; Mandy Putt, All North Half; Mandy Putt and Felicia Newson, All State; Betsy Burkhead, All State Honorable Mention; Dana Wages, State All Star; Dana Wages and Betsy Burkhead, Lady Invitational of the South Scholar Athlete; and Dana Wages, Lindy Callahan Scholar Athlete Scholarship; and

     WHEREAS, other team members included Sharon Durr, Lori Walker, Stacy Castle, Tiffany Buford, Lisa Faulkner, Misty Edwards, Kathy Walker, Sonny Haven, Christy Campbell, Nicole Newson, and managers Nicole VanSickle, Allison Oakley and Krista Castle; and

     WHEREAS, Head Coach Bill Russell (District II 3A Coach of the Year and Mississippi Association of Coaches' Coach of the Year) and Assistant Coach Troy Howell helped the Lady Warriors broaden their knowledge of the game and refine their skills in execution; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Warriors have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect a great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to Senatobia High School; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Mississippi State Senate to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we commend and congratulate the Senatobia High School Lady Warriors Basketball Team and Coach Bill Russell for their phenomenal 1996-1997 season, for winning the State 3A Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Senatobia High School and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
