AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF ANY COUNTY TO ADOPT REASONABLE ORDINANCES TO LICENSE THE USE OF ALL-TERRAIN VEHICLES ON PUBLIC STREETS OR ROADS UNDER ITS JURISDICTION; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  The board of supervisors of any county shall have the power to adopt reasonable ordinances to license the use of all-terrain vehicles on public streets or roads under its jurisdiction.  The ordinances shall require an annual registration fee of Twenty-five Dollars ($25.00) for each vehicle to be paid into the county treasury.  The ordinances shall require all persons operating the vehicles to wear a safety helmet and use headlights at all times of operation.  The ordinances may contain additional provisions regulating the use of all-terrain vehicles as long as the provisions are not inconsistent with this section. 

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2002.
