AN ACT TO CREATE THE OFFENSE OF POINTING AND AIMING A FIREARM AS A FELONY OFFENSE; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Any person who shall point or aim a firearm at another person, when not acting in necessary self-defense or while carrying out lawful duties as a law enforcement officer, shall upon conviction be guilty of a felony and be sentenced to not less than one (1) nor more than three (3) years in the custody of the Department of Corrections.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2002.
