AN ACT TO PROHIBIT THE USE OF ANY STATE-OWNED PROPERTY FOR THE PURPOSE OF CONDUCTING A GUN SHOW; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  (1)  The use of any state-owned or state-controlled property to conduct a gun show is prohibited.  For the purposes of this section, a "gun show" is an event or function sponsored by any individual or corporation or any national, state or local organization that is devoted to the collection, competitive use, or other sporting use of firearms, or an organization that sponsors functions devoted to the collection, competitive use, or other sporting use of firearms in the community.

     (2)  Violation of this section shall constitute a misdemeanor for any adult who permits or participates in such violation, and shall constitute grounds for immediate termination of employment for any state employee who knowingly permits or encourages use of state-owned property for such purpose.

     (3)  This section shall not be construed to impair the obligations of contracts made and entered into prior to April 15, 2001, and in which case the penalty of subsection (2) shall not apply.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2002.
