House Resolution 78

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MR. NOEL GUTHRIE, JR., ON RECEIVING THE 2002 GOVERNOR'S INITIATIVE FOR VOLUNTEER EXCELLENCE AWARD FOR SERVICE TO MISSISSIPPI'S DISABLED.

WHEREAS, Mr. Noel Guthrie, Jr., was presented the 2002 Governor's Initiative for Volunteer Excellence (GIVE) Award for service to the disabled citizens of Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, diligently giving of himself to the patients at the Mississippi Methodist Rehabilitation Center who suffer with the effects of strokes, traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury, Mr. Guthrie provides an air of dignity to those who require the assistance of others with basic human needs; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Guthrie, freely and patiently gives his time to savor and rekindle the precious moments life has to offer us all, visits each floor searching for patients who are lonely, frightened or simply bored to spread a ray of sunshine and hope on their day; and

WHEREAS, the patients of Mississippi Methodist Rehabilitation Center respond to Mr. Guthrie with appreciation and open arms, expressing the depth of their love and gratitude for the time he has spent talking, reading or writing to them; and

WHEREAS, the GIVE Awards are presented to individuals such as Mr. Guthrie who have dedicated themselves to easing the burdens of others by demonstrating leadership, creativity, cooperation and hard work in their service to others; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Guthrie's service to the state's disabled citizens is evidence of Mississippi's rich history of volunteerism, and exhibits the nature of care Mississippians share with one another as we work together to build a very bright future; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi to recognize and commend such outstanding Mississippians as Mr. Noel Guthrie, Jr., who epitomizes the standards of volunteerism by his dedicated service to the disabled citizens of our state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mr. Noel Guthrie, Jr., on receiving the 2002 Governor's Initiative for Volunteer Excellence Award for service to Mississippi's disabled and extend to him our warmest wishes for many more years of good health, peace, happiness and success in all his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Noel Guthrie, Jr., and to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
