House Resolution 77

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF WORLD WAR II VETERAN, MAJOR AUBREY C. GRIFFIN, JR.

     WHEREAS, Major Aubrey C. Griffin, Jr., a native Mississippian, is the son of the late Aubrey and Zeta Griffin; and

     WHEREAS, having grown up in Jackson, Mississippi, Major Griffin is a graduate of Central High School and the Jackson School of Law; and

     WHEREAS, prior to serving the United States Army in World War II, Major Griffin served the United States Marine Corps in the 4th Marine Infantry Division as a member of the United States Marine expeditionary force in the Shanghai, China, conflict known as the "Hung Chow House Boat Expedition"; and

     WHEREAS, Major Griffin served as a commissioned officer of the 31st Infantry Division, proudly named the "Dixie Division" in the United States Army; and

     WHEREAS, as a United States Army Captain serving in the South Pacific, Major Griffin was wounded in hostile Japanese combat, and for his injury and heroic and gallant display of courage under fire, was awarded the Purple Heart and the Silver Star; and

     WHEREAS, Major Griffin was awarded a lifetime membership in the 31st Infantry "Dixie" Division of the United States Army for his exemplary and distinguished service to the United States; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi to recognize and commend outstanding Mississippians, such as Major Aubrey C. Griffin, Jr., who has proudly and diligently served the people of this state, the nation and the world:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Major Aubrey C. Griffin, Jr., on his many accomplishments and extend our warmest wishes for many more years of good health, peace, happiness and success in all his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Major Aubrey C. Griffin, Jr., and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
