House Resolution 65

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE DURANT HIGH SCHOOL LADY TIGERS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2001-2002 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE STATE 1A CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Durant High School Lady Tigers Basketball Team finished the 2001-2002 season with a remarkable record of 27 wins and three losses; and

WHEREAS, in addition to winning the 1A State Championship, the Lady Tigers won the South State Championship and the Division 5 1A Championship; and

WHEREAS, many individual honors have been bestowed among several of the Lady Tigers including the naming of Ashley Howard, Monchel Howard and Jamie Roby to the All-District Team; the selection of Ashley Howard, Monchel Howard and LaVannah White to the All-South State Team; and the naming of Ashley Howard, Monchel Howard and Sabrina Thompson to the All-State Team; and

WHEREAS, the Durant High School Lady Tigers have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Catherine McCrory and Assistant Coach Glendolyn Crowell, who have broadened the Tigers' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, Head Coach McCrory has brought additional honor to Durant High School and the Lady Tigers by being named 1A Coach of the Year by the Mississippi Association of Coaches; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Tigers have also been encouraged and supported by their team statistician, Lisa Haynes; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Tigers have developed a winning attitude and cooperative spirit, and their activities and attitude reflect great honor on Durant High School; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we commend and congratulate the Durant High School Lady Tigers Basketball Team and their coaches, Head Coach Catherine McCrory and Assistant Coach Glendolyn Crowell, for their phenomenal 2001-2002 season, for winning the Class 1A State Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Durant High School, Head Coach Catherine McCrory, Assistant Coach Glendolyn Crowell and to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
