House Resolution 63

     WHEREAS, Dr. Franck Dayan won an Early Career Research Scientist Award, which is given to Agricultural Research Center scientists who have made outstanding scientific contributions, have been with the agency seven years or less and completed their highest academic degree within the past 10 years; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Dayan earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from Stephen F. Austin State University and received his Ph.D. from Auburn University; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Dayan is based at Agricultural Research Center's Natural Products Utilization Research Unit in Oxford, Mississippi, where he and his colleagues work to find potential new agricultural uses for chemicals naturally present in plants and other organisms; and

     WHEREAS, during his seven years working for the United States Department of Agriculture, Dr. Dayan has been involved in several discoveries, most notably discovering a new mechanism of action for herbicides; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Dayan is a member of several professional organizations including the Weed Science Society of America, the Phytochemical Society of North America and the QSAR and Modeling Society; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Dayan has received numerous awards and honors including the Beta Beta Beta Biology Honor Society, Gamma Sigma Epsilon Chemistry Honor Society, Alpha Chi, first place in the Graduate Student Research Forum, Outstanding Foreign Student Award and many USDA Certificates of Merit for various research projects; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Dayan lives with is lovely wife, Renee, and their four daughters in Oxford, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by outstanding Mississippians such as Dr. Dayan:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Dr. Franck Dayan for winning an Early Career Research Scientist Award and express our heartiest wishes for success in all his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Dr. Franck Dayan and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
