A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF DR. HARDY B. WOODBRIDGE, JR., AND EXPRESSING OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HIS PASSING.

     WHEREAS, Dr. Hardy B. Woodbridge, Jr., departed this life on Sunday, February 24, 2002, causing a great loss to his family and friends; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Woodbridge graduated from the University of Mississippi and completed his pre-med at Millsaps College before graduating from Tulane University with his M.D. degree; and

     WHEREAS, from 1943 to 1946, Dr. Woodbridge served his country in the Army Infantry in the European Theater of Operations and was discharged with the rank of Captain; and

     WHEREAS, during his exceptional military career, Dr. Woodbridge was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star; and

     WHEREAS, throughout his long and distinguished career, Dr. Woodbridge received numerous awards including the appointment as Professor Emeritus of Family Medicine by the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, life memberships in the Mississippi Academy and the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Golden Stethoscope Award and the John B. Howell Award for Mississippi Family Doctor of the Year; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Woodbridge was an active member of his community through his involvement with several organizations such as the Kiwanis Club International, Romeo Club, Jackson Swim Association, River Hills Club, Colonial Country Club and a longtime member of St. James Episcopal Church; and

     WHEREAS, Dr. Woodbridge is survived by his wife, Wilma "Sugar" Bradley Woodbridge; three daughters, June, Laurie and Ann; stepson, John; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi to recognize and commend outstanding Mississippians such as Dr. Woodbridge, who was a well respected and caring physician and family man:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend the life and accomplishments of Dr. Hardy B. Woodbridge, Jr., and express our deepest sympathy to his family and friends upon his passing.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Dr. Hardy B. Woodbridge, Jr., and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
