House Resolution 52

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MRS. JESSIE LEE BRYANT CLARK UPON THE CELEBRATION OF HER 100TH BIRTHDAY.

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Jessie Lee Bryant Clark, affectionately known as Dear, will celebrate her 100th birthday on May 4, 2002; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Clark was born and raised in Holly Bluff, Yazoo County, Mississippi, with her 15 siblings by her parents, William and Mary Elisha Bryant; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Clark attended Bayland School, although most of the training and education she received was through the Sunday School and youth activities of her church; and

     WHEREAS, in 1924, Mrs. Clark married Lee Andrew Clark, a minister in the African Methodist Episcopal Church, which led to many moves across the state to further his ministry including Natchez, Gulfport, Hattiesburg, Benton and Jackson, where Mrs. Clark currently resides; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Clark was a dedicated minister's wife and loving mother, who managed the home with a small income and by raising chickens, pigs, and gardening fruits and vegetables; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Clark still enjoys spending her time gardening, quilting and traveling; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Clark is an active member of New Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Jackson, Mississippi, where she is a member of the Sunday School, the Missionary Society and the Stewardess Board No. 2; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Clark has been recognized for her outstanding community involvement and continues to mentor to young people and instill in them daily, the moral values of Christianity; and

     WHEREAS, Mrs. Clark has been lovingly supported by her late husband, Reverend Lee Andrew Clark; seven children:  Lee Andrew, Jr., Sidney Lawrence, Vester Lee, Annie Mary, Madison Columbus, Ethel Salenia and Howard William; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi to recognize and commend outstanding Mississippians such as Mrs. Clark, who has dedicated her life to her family and serving her community:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mrs. Jessie Lee Bryant Clark upon the celebration of her 100th birthday and express our heartiest wishes for happiness and good health.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mrs. Jessie Lee Bryant Clark and to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
