A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE COPIAH-LINCOLN COMMUNITY COLLEGE LADY WOLVES BASKETBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING 2001-2002 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI ASSOCIATION OF COMMUNITY AND JUNIOR COLLEGES (MACJC) STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AND THE NATIONAL JUNIOR COLLEGE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION (NJCAA) REGION 23 CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves Basketball Team finished the 2001-2002 season with a remarkable record of 26 wins and only two losses; and

     WHEREAS, the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves won the 2002 MACJC State Championship and the 2002 NJCAA Region 23 Championship; and

     WHEREAS, this Championship Team includes:  Gwen Smith, Ayme Beeson, Monica Townsend, Alexya Irvin, Lindsay Altman, Sherika Harried, Tiana Burns, Nikki Blakely, Mindy Livaudais, Roberta Johnson, Laurie Ann Davi, Christy Brown, Shaquita Smith and Hope Mason; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Wolves have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Gwyn Young, Assistant Coaches, Bill McGuire, Dewayne Middleton, Lane Young and Chip Smith, who have broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

     WHEREAS, in addition, the Lady Wolves have been supported in all their athletic endeavors by Athletic Trainer Rob Steele and Manager Shalonda Wyatt; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Wolves Basketball Team has also been greatly encouraged by Copiah-Lincoln Community College's President, Dr. Howell Garner; and      

     WHEREAS, the Lady Wolves have developed a winning attitude and cooperative spirit, and their activities and attitude reflect great honor upon Copiah-Lincoln Community College; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the young people of our state, who are its future:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we commend and congratulate the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves Basketball Team and their coaches, Head Coach Gwyn Young, Assistant Coaches, Bill McGuire, Dewayne Middleton, Lane Young and Chip Smith, for their phenomenal 2001-2002 season, for winning the MACJC State Championship, for winning the NJCAA Region 23 Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Dr. Howell Garner, Head Coach Gwyn Young, Assistant Coaches Bill McGuire, Dewayne Middleton, Lane Young and Chip Smith and to members of the Capitol Press Corps.
