A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MR. ROBERT DESHA HINES, JR., UPON BEING NAMED THE SOUTHERN COTTON GINNERS ASSOCIATION'S GINNER OF THE YEAR.

     WHEREAS, Mr. Robert DeSha Hines, Jr., a lifelong resident of Yazoo County, Mississippi, was among more than 10,000 individuals attending the 2002 Farm and Gin Show in Memphis, Tennessee; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Robert DeSha Hines, Jr., was named the Southern Cotton Ginners Association's Ginner of the Year; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Robert DeSha Hines, Jr., began his career in ginning more than 50 years ago and gained valuable experience in the ginning business that would help him throughout his long and distinguished career by working with his father, Robert DeSha Hines, Sr., at Peoples Gin in Carter, Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Robert DeSha Hines, Jr., now leads Yazoo County's most productive planters in the operation of Yazoo Planters Gin Co., a state-of-the-art gin, which produces more than 32 bales of cotton per hour; and

     WHEREAS, Mr. Robert DeSha Hines, Jr., now 83, remains active in day-to-day farming and ginning operations with the support and assistance of his wife, Sara Rainer Hines and children, Varner, Anne, Sara, Robert and Thomas; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi to recognize and commend excellence in such accomplished individuals as Mr. Robert DeSha Hines, Jr., who epitomizes the successful evolution of the cotton ginning industry:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Mr. Robert DeSha Hines, Jr., upon being named the Southern Cotton Ginners Association's Ginner of the Year, and extend to him our heartiest wishes for good health, peace and happiness, and convey our hopes of continued success in all his future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Mr. Robert DeSha Hines, Jr., and the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
