House Resolution 40

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE PONTOTOC HIGH SCHOOL WARRIORS CROSS-COUNTRY TEAM FOR ITS OUTSTANDING 2001 SEASON AND FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION (MHSAA) CLASS 3A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Pontotoc High School Warriors Cross-Country Team finished the 2001 season with a remarkable record; and

WHEREAS, throughout the regular season, the Warriors, displaying exceptional strength and endurance, were able to capture the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 3A State Championship; and

WHEREAS, the Pontotoc Warriors cross-country team has an impressive overall record, boasting a combined total of 306 wins and only 46 losses; and

WHEREAS, the Pontotoc Warriors have accumulated a total of 42 district titles, 23 state titles and 17 total individual state champion awards; and

WHEREAS, the Pontotoc High Warriors have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Mike Bain, who has broadened the Bulldogs knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, Coach Bain has brought additional honor to Pontotoc High School and its cross-country athletes, having been named Coach of the Year for 1982, 1985 and 1986, Regional Coach of the Year for the Southeastern United States in 1986 and having been nominated in 2000 for National Coach of the Year; and

WHEREAS, the Pontotoc High Warriors have been supported in their athletic endeavors and attribute much of their success to the many parents and fans throughout the season; and

WHEREAS, the Warriors have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual members and their coach and bring honor to Pontotoc High; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Pontotoc High School Warriors Cross-Country Team and their coach, Mike Bain, for their phenomenal 2001 season, for winning the MHSAA Class 3A State Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Pontotoc High School, Head Coach Mike Bain and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
