House Resolution 32

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MISS KATIE TAYLOR ON RECEIVING A 2002 PRUDENTIAL SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY AWARD.

     WHEREAS, Miss Katie Taylor, an esteemed resident of Madison, Mississippi, and a senior at Madison-Ridgeland Academy, has achieved national recognition for exemplary volunteer service by receiving a 2002 Prudential Spirit of Community Award; and

     WHEREAS, this prestigious award, presented by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, honors young volunteers across America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to serving their communities; and

     WHEREAS, Miss Taylor earned this award by giving generously of her time and energy to collect more than 20,000 used tennis balls for Special Olympics athletes in her "Operation Right Bounce" campaign; and

     WHEREAS, the success of the State of Mississippi, the strength of our communities, and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, upon the dedication of young people like Miss Taylor, who use their considerable talents and resources to serve others; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of this state, who are its future:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Miss Katie Taylor on receiving a 2002 Prudential Spirit of Community Award.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Miss Katie Taylor and the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
