House Resolution 5

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE WATER VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL CHEERLEADING SQUAD FOR WINNING THEIR SECOND CONSECUTIVE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CHEERLEADING COMPETITION.

WHEREAS, the Water Valley High School Cheerleaders earned their second consecutive state title at the Mississippi High School Activities Association Cheerleading Competition for 2001; and

WHEREAS, the Water Valley High School Cheerleaders through countless hours of practice and sacrifice advanced to the state competition after winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 2A Large North Mississippi Regional Cheerleading Championship; and

WHEREAS, the Water Valley High School Cheerleaders last season won both the North Mississippi Class 3A Regional Championship and the Class 3A State Championship; and

WHEREAS, the members of the 2001 squad, Anna Crow, Heather River, Mandy Mills, Alana Reed, Lacey Harris, Megan Edwards, Desiree Dickey, Courtney Lowe, Chastity McMinn, Ashley Wilbourn, Kara Ward, Sara Ward, Hillary Hart and Yashica Woodard, all exemplify a solid foundation of focus and determination; and

WHEREAS, the Water Valley Cheerleaders were superbly coached and inspired by Suzanne Oakley and choreographer Courtney Parsons, who spent countless hours with the squad practicing and ironing out the minor details to produce a championship squad; and

WHEREAS, the Water Valley High School Cheerleaders have developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit among the members of the squad and their coaches and bring honor to Water Valley High School; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives of the State of Mississippi to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Water Valley High School Cheerleading Squad and their coach, Suzanne Oakley, for their outstanding performance in winning the Class 2A Large Mississippi High School Activities Association Cheerleading Championship, and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Water Valley High School and coach Suzanne Oakley.
