A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING COACH LLOYD B. CLARK, JR., UPON HIS RETIREMENT AS HEAD COACH OF THE DELTA STATE UNIVERSITY LADY STATESMEN BASKETBALL TEAM; AND
WHEREAS, at the end of the season, Coach Lloyd B. Clark, Jr., will retire as Head Coach of the Delta State University Lady Statesmen Basketball Team; and
WHEREAS, Coach Clark, a native of Drew, Mississippi, received a bachelor's degree in social science and a master's degree in education with a history emphasis from Delta State University; and
WHEREAS, Coach Clark began his career as girls coach at Vicksburg's Warren Central High School from 1975-1983, compiling an amazing 245-83 record; and
WHEREAS, throughout Coach Clark's long and distinguished career at Delta State University, he has compiled an overall record of 494 wins and 98 losses, winning 13 Gulf South Conference titles, 10 NCAA regional titles and three NCAA Division II National Championships; and
WHEREAS, at Walter Sillers Coliseum, Coach Clark's teams have compiled an incredible 256-20 record, including two Final Four wins in 1989 to win the national title and become the first team ever to win an NCAA basketball national championship in its home arena; and
WHEREAS, Coach Clark has also influenced many students at Delta State University as a history instructor; and
WHEREAS, Coach Clark has been lovingly supported in all his endeavors by his lovely wife, the former Babs Walker; their two sons, Scottie and Brady; and two grandchildren, Walker and Will; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend outstanding Mississippians such as Coach Clark, who has dedicated his career to educating our young people and broadening the Lady Statesmen's skills on the basketball court:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Coach Lloyd B. Clark, Jr., upon his retirement as the Head Coach of the Delta State University Lady Statesmen Basketball Team and express our heartiest wishes for success in all his future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Coach Lloyd B. Clark, Jr., and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
