House Concurrent Resolution 96

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING GREAT SOUTHERN NATIONAL BANK UPON THE CELEBRATION OF 100 YEARS OF BUSINESS.

     WHEREAS, Great Southern National Bank, which was founded in March 1902, when Governor A.H. Longino endorsed a historic Charter of Incorporation creating the Bank of Quitman, celebrates 100 years of being in operation; and

     WHEREAS, originally a hometown bank, operated and managed by hometown people, Great Southern National Bank has experienced substantial growth during its long history; and

     WHEREAS, never closing for a single banking day in its 100 years, not even during the Great Depression, Great Southern National Bank in 1974 established the first Central Financial Services, Inc., in Meridian, Mississippi, which has since grown to include offices in Quitman, Waynesboro, Hattiesburg, Gulfport, Picayune, Columbia, Philadelphia and New Albany; and

     WHEREAS, Great Southern National Bank gradually expanded throughout its years of existence and its operations, and now has more than 20 branches and affiliates which share the prominent legacy of the institution's historical origin; and

     WHEREAS, honoring its past and being continually motivated by the achievements of the present moment, the bank's administrators and employees eagerly look toward the future, where the most exciting and far-reaching history of Great Southern National Bank remains to be written; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend a historical legacy such as Great Southern National  Bank, still in the makings of excellence:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Great Southern National Bank on the celebration of being a successful business establishment for 100 years.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the CEO and Board of Directors of Great Southern National Bank and the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
