House Concurrent Resolution 89

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MS. GAYLE GREENE-AGUIRRE FOR BEING SELECTED AS INSTRUCTOR OF THE YEAR AT THE PERKINSTON CAMPUS OF THE MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST COMMUNITY COLLEGE.

     WHEREAS, Ms. Gayle Greene-Aguirre, a resident of Gulfport, Mississippi, has been selected as Instructor of the Year at the Perkinston Campus of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in recognition of her distinguished service to the college; and

     WHEREAS, the award was established by the Alumni Association of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College to honor instructors at the college, and the recipient of the award is chosen from nominations submitted by students, faculty and administrators, on the basis of their teaching excellence, college service, community service and professional development; and

     WHEREAS, Ms. Greene-Aguirre, a social studies instructor, has been employed at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College for the past five years and has taught for the past 18 years and was chosen in 2001 as the Mississippi Humanities Council Teacher of the Year and the Bennie Warren Outstanding Phi Theta Kappa Advisor for the Mississippi-Louisiana region; and

     WHEREAS, Ms. Greene-Aguirre received her B.A. from the University of Connecticut, her M.A. from the University of North Texas, and is completing extensive graduate work at the University of Southern Mississippi and William Carey College; and

     WHEREAS, serving as a sponsor for Phi Theta Kappa, Gamma Nu Chapter, Ms. Greene-Aguirre brought the chapter from a Level 3 rating to a Level 5, and has served as committee chair for the Perk Festival of Lights, served on the vice president's committee and judicial board, served as judge for the State History Fair and the College Quiz Bowl Competition; and

     WHEREAS, a retired lieutenant colonel of the Women's Army Corps as of 1996, Ms. Greene-Aguirre has published numerous articles and has given presentations throughout the United States; and

     WHEREAS, Ms. Greene-Aguirre is a member of the Mississippi Professional Educators, the Mississippi Foreign Language Association, the Alabama-Mississippi Association for Teachers of English as a Second Language, the American Association of University Women and the National Council for History Education; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend such outstanding teachers as Ms. Gayle Greene-Aguirre, who has dedicated her career to teaching the young people of this state:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Ms. Gayle Greene-Aguirre, for being selected as Instructor of the Year at the Perkinston Campus of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and extend to her our heartiest wishes for success in all her future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Ms. Gayle Greene-Aguirre and the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
