A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MS. MARY OTT TREMMEL DAVIDSON FOR BEING SELECTED AS INSTRUCTOR OF THE YEAR AT THE JEFFERSON DAVIS CAMPUS OF THE MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST COMMUNITY COLLEGE.

     WHEREAS, Ms. Mary Davidson, a resident of Saucier, Mississippi, has been selected as Instructor of the Year at the Jefferson Davis Campus of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in recognition of her distinguished service to the college; and

     WHEREAS, the award was established by the Alumni Association of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College to honor instructors at the college, and the recipient of the award is chosen from nominations submitted by students, faculty and administrators, on the basis of their teaching excellence, college service, community service and professional development; and

     WHEREAS, Ms. Davidson, an art instructor, has been employed at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College for the past 13 years and has taught for the past 40 years; and

     WHEREAS, Ms. Davidson received her B.S. from St. Mary's Dominican College, her M.A.T. from Newcomb Art School, Tulane University, and M.F.A. from Vermont College of Norwich University; and

     WHEREAS, serving as a sponsor for the Jackson County Campus Art Club, Ms. Davidson, a member of the College Art Association, created the Jefferson Davis Art Gallery, in addition to creating the only bronze casting foundry and stone carving curriculum at a community college in Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, Ms. Davidson has served on the Biloxi Tricentennial Exhibits Committee, has served in the capacity of artistic consultant and designer for numerous community projects, and has given many one-person exhibitions of her work throughout the state and nation; and

     WHEREAS, as artist/liaison for the Board of Mississippi State Committee of the National Museum of Women in the Arts, Ms. Davidson is a member of the National Council of Education for the Ceramic Arts, National College Art Association and International Sculpture Center Association; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend such outstanding teachers as Ms. Mary Davidson, who has dedicated her career to teaching the young people of this state:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Ms. Mary Ott Tremmel Davidson, for being selected as Instructor of the Year at the Jefferson Davis Campus of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and extend to her our heartiest wishes for success in all her future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Ms. Mary Davidson and the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
