House Concurrent Resolution 87

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING MS. KAY SIMS FOR BEING SELECTED AS INSTRUCTOR OF THE YEAR AT THE JACKSON COUNTY CAMPUS OF THE MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST COMMUNITY COLLEGE.

     WHEREAS, Ms. Kay Sims, a resident of Pascagoula, Mississippi, has been selected as Instructor of the Year at the Jackson County Campus of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College in recognition of her distinguished service to the college; and

     WHEREAS, the award was established by the Alumni Association of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College to honor instructors at the college, and the recipient of the award is chosen from nominations submitted by students, faculty and administrators, on the basis of their teaching excellence, college service, community service and professional development; and

     WHEREAS, Ms. Sims, an English instructor, has been employed at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College for the past 13 years and has taught for the past 30 years; and

     WHEREAS, Ms. Sims received her associate degree from Hinds Community College, and her B.A. and M.S. from the University of Southern Mississippi; and

     WHEREAS, serving as a sponsor for Phi Theta Kappa for the Jackson County Campus since 1989, Ms. Sims has served as secretary, vice chair and chair of the Association of Chapter Advisors for Phi Theta Kappa International; and

     WHEREAS, Ms. Sims developed the curriculum for courses taught at Pascagoula High School, has served as Director of Honors on Jackson County Campus since 1992, and has completed training as a Certified Leadership Development Instructor; and

     WHEREAS, Ms. Sims is a member of the Jackson County Democratic Executive Committee, the Jackson County Federation of Democratic Women, the First United Presbyterian Church, KoMA and the Mardi Gras Krewe; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend such outstanding teachers as Ms. Kay Sims, who has dedicated her career to teaching the young people of this state:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Ms. Kay Sims, for being selected as Instructor of the Year at the Jackson County Campus of the Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and extend to her our heartiest wishes for success in all her future endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Ms. Kay Sims and the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
