A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE EAST CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL LADY HORNETS SOFTBALL TEAM FOR THEIR OUTSTANDING ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN THE 2000-2001 SEASON AND UPON WINNING THEIR FIRST CLASS 4A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

     WHEREAS, the East Central High School Lady Hornets Softball Team finished the 2000-2001 season with a record of 32 wins and four losses; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Hornets were runner-up in the 2000 Mississippi High School State 4A Softball Championship, and made a successful bid to win the 2001 Mississippi High School State 4A Softball Championship by defeating Terry High School in a 5-0 and 7-0 defeat; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Hornets have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Kenneth Long, who has won 100 games in five seasons, and broadened the Lady Hornets' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

     WHEREAS, the Lady Hornets have developed a winning attitude and cooperative spirit, and their activities and attitude reflect great pride and bring honor to East Central High School; and

     WHEREAS, the superlative efforts of the Lady Hornets, coupled with perseverance and dedication, has proven to be an enduring trademark of the East Central High School Lady Hornets Softball Team; and

     WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the youth of our state, who are its future:

     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we commend and congratulate the East Central High School Lady Hornets Softball Team and their coach, Head Coach Kenneth Long, for their phenomenal 2000-2001 season and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to East Central High School and Head Coach Kenneth Long.
