AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE GOVERNING AUTHORITIES OF THE TOWNS OF SUNFLOWER AND INVERNESS, MISSISSIPPI, AND THE GOVERNING AUTHORITIES OF THE CITIES OF MOORHEAD, DREW, INDIANOLA AND RULEVILLE, MISSISSIPPI, TO PAY FROM THE PROCEEDS OF COURT COSTS OR FINES IMPOSED ON EACH MISDEMEANOR CASE PROCESSED THROUGH THE COURT SYSTEM OF THE TOWN OR CITY; TO PROVIDE THAT THE AMOUNTS PAID SHALL BE USED TO FUND THE SUNFLOWER COUNTY CRIMESTOPPERS PROGRAM; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  (1)  The governing authorities of the Town of Inverness, Mississippi, in their discretion, are authorized, by resolution duly adopted and entered on their minutes, to pay from the proceeds of court costs or fines imposed an amount not to exceed Two Dollars ($2.00) per case for each misdemeanor case processed through the Inverness Town Court.

     (2)  The amounts paid under subsection (1) of this section shall be paid by the town to Sunflower County Crimestoppers, Inc., for use in procuring information to aid authorities in the capture and conviction of persons committing crimes in Sunflower County, Mississippi.

     SECTION 2.  (1)  The governing authorities of the City of Moorhead, Mississippi, in their discretion, are authorized, by resolution duly adopted and entered on their minutes, to pay from the proceeds of court costs or fines imposed an amount not to exceed Three Dollars ($3.00) per case for each misdemeanor case processed through the municipal court of such city.

     (2)  The amounts paid under subsection (1) of this section shall be paid by the city to Sunflower County Crimestoppers, Inc., for use in procuring information to aid authorities in the capture and conviction of persons committing crimes in Sunflower County, Mississippi.

     SECTION 3.  (1)  The governing authorities of the City of Drew, Mississippi, in their discretion, are authorized, by resolution duly adopted and entered on their minutes, to pay from the proceeds of court costs or fines imposed an amount not to exceed Three Dollars ($3.00) per case for each misdemeanor case processed through the municipal court of such city.

     (2)  The amounts paid under subsection (1) of this section shall be paid by the city to Sunflower County Crimestoppers, Inc., for use in procuring information to aid authorities in the capture and conviction of persons committing crimes in Sunflower County, Mississippi.

      SECTION 4.  (1)  The governing authorities of the City of Indianola, Mississippi, in their discretion, are authorized, by resolution duly adopted and entered on their minutes, to pay from the proceeds of court costs or fines imposed an amount not to exceed Three Dollars ($3.00) per case for each misdemeanor case processed through the municipal court of such city.

     (2)  The amounts paid under subsection (1) of this section shall be paid by the city to Sunflower County Crimestoppers, Inc., for use in procuring information to aid authorities in the capture and conviction of persons committing crimes in Sunflower County, Mississippi.

     SECTION 5.  (1)  The governing authorities of the City of Ruleville, Mississippi, in their discretion, are authorized, by resolution duly adopted and entered on their minutes, to pay from the proceeds of court costs or fines imposed an amount not to exceed Three Dollars ($3.00) per case for each misdemeanor case processed through the municipal court of such city.

     (2)  The amounts paid under subsection (1) of this section shall be paid by the city to Sunflower County Crimestoppers, Inc., for use in procuring information to aid authorities in the capture and conviction of persons committing crimes in Sunflower County, Mississippi.

     SECTION 6.  (1)  The governing authorities of the Town of Sunflower, Mississippi, in their discretion, are authorized, by resolution duly adopted and entered on their minutes, to pay from the proceeds of court costs or fines imposed an amount not to exceed Three Dollars ($3.00) per case for each misdemeanor case processed through the Sunflower Town Court.

     (2)  The amounts paid under subsection (1) of this section shall be paid by the town to Sunflower County Crimestoppers, Inc., for use in procuring information to aid authorities in the capture and conviction of persons committing crimes in Sunflower County, Mississippi.

     SECTION 7.  The provisions of Sections 1 through 6 of this act do not authorize the governing authorities of any of the named municipalities to levy an additional assessment or court cost on any misdemeanor case processed through the municipal or town courts of the municipalities.

     SECTION 8.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
