AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE GOVERNING AUTHORITIES OF THE TOWN OF SMITHVILLE, MISSISSIPPI, TO EXTEND THE POLICE JURISDICTION OF THE TOWN OF SMITHVILLE OUTSIDE OF THE CORPORATE BOUNDARIES OF THE MUNICIPALITY TO INCLUDE THE CAMPUS, PARKING LOTS AND BALL FIELDS OF THE SMITHVILLE SCHOOL; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. (1) The governing authorities of the Town of Smithville, Mississippi, in their discretion, may extend the police jurisdiction of the Town of Smithville to an area one thousand (1,000) feet west, one thousand (1,000) feet north and one thousand (1,000) feet east on each side of the real property of the Smithville school campus, parking lots and ball fields in Monroe County, being partly within and partly outside of the Town of Smithville, the Smithville school land lying and being north of the centerline of the Smithville-Tremont Road within and outside of the corporate boundaries of the Town of Smithville, and to the west of a north/south line running perpendicular to the intersection of the Smithville-Tremont Road and the Smithville-Fulton Road in the Town of Smithville.
(2) Any police jurisdiction that the Town of Smithville may be granted under this act shall be concurrent with the jurisdiction of Monroe County.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
