AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE RETIRING CORRECTIONAL FIELD OFFICERS TO RETAIN THE SERVICE WEAPON ISSUED TO THEM BY THE MISSISSIPPI DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. A correctional field officer employed by the Mississippi Department of Corrections who retires for superannuation or for reason of disability under the Public Employees' Retirement System may retain, upon the officer's request, as the personal property of the officer, one (1) service weapon that was issued to the officer by the department.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2002.
