AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 3-3-15, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO REQUIRE THE OFFICIAL STATE FLAG AND THE FLAG OF THE UNITED STATES TO BE DISPLAYED IN CLOSE PROXIMITY TO ALL STATE-OWNED BUILDINGS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Section 3-3-15, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

     3-3-15.  Except as otherwise provided herein, the flag of the United States of America and the official flag of the State of Mississippi as described in Section 3-3-16 shall be displayed in close proximity to each state-owned building, and at office spaces occupied by state government in other buildings, from sunrise to sunset.  The * * * flags may be displayed from all public buildings other than state-owned buildings, from sunrise to sunset.  The * * * flags may be displayed from all public buildings twenty-four (24) hours a day if properly illuminated.  The * * * flags should not be displayed when the weather is inclement, except when * * * all-weather flags are displayed.  The official state flag shall receive all of the respect and ceremonious etiquette given the * * * flag of the United States of America; however, nothing in this section shall be construed * * * to affect the precedence given to the flag of the United States of America.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2002.
