House Bill 1422

AN ACT TO REQUIRE SEX EDUCATION TO BE TAUGHT, BEGINNING NO LATER THAN IN THE THIRD GRADE, IN ALL PUBLIC SCHOOLS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

      SECTION 1.  In addition to the curriculum otherwise required by law or the State Board of Education, sex education must be

taught to all students in the public schools of this state.  The course of study in sex education must be developmentally age appropriate and must be introduced and taught to students before their completion of the third grade.

     SECTION 2.  Section 1 of this act shall be codified as a separate code section in Chapter 13, Title 37, Mississippi Code of 1972.

     SECTION 3.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2002.
