AN ACT TO CREATE THE OFFENSE OF POINTING AND AIMING A FIREARM; TO PROVIDE PENALTIES FOR VIOLATIONS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Any person who shall point or aim a firearm at another person when not acting in necessary self-defense or while not carrying out lawful duties as a law enforcement officer shall upon conviction, be guilty of a felony and be sentenced to not less than one (1) or more than three (3) years in prison.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2002.
