House Bill 1217

AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT EVERY PRIVATE EMPLOYER IN THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI SHALL GRANT CERTAIN LEAVE TIME TO ANY OF HIS EMPLOYEES WHO ARE THE VICTIMS OF A VIOLENT CRIME; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Every private employer in the State of Mississippi shall grant any of his employees who are the victims of a violent crime a leave period of up to thirty (30) days of time, with or without pay.  The employer shall grant those employees their same jobs with the same pay upon their return to work if they return no later than thirty (30) days after the crime.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2002.
