House Bill 1214

AN ACT TO REQUIRE EVERY INSURER THAT WRITES MEDICAL MALPRACTICE INSURANCE IN THIS STATE TO FILE ANNUALLY CERTAIN DISCLOSURE STATEMENTS CONCERNING MEDICAL MALPRACTICE CLAIMS AND CERTAIN FINANCIAL STATEMENTS CONCERNING BUSINESS DONE IN THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Every insurer that writes medical malpractice insurance in this state shall file in the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance, on or before the first day of March of each year the following:

          (a)  A disclosure statement showing all medical malpractice claims made and paid for by the insurer for the preceding year on policies covering medical doctors, medical personnel and nursing homes; and

          (b)  A financial statement, completed in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, depicting the income and expenses derived from medical malpractice insurance policies written in the State of Mississippi only.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2002.
