     AN ACT TO DESIGNATE A CERTAIN SEGMENT OF OLD U.S. HIGHWAY 49 IN RANKIN COUNTY AS A STATE HIGHWAY AND TO PLACE SUCH SEGMENT UNDER THE JURISDICTION OF THE MISSISSIPPI TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION FOR CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  (1)  The following segment of highway is designated as a state highway and placed under the jurisdiction of the Mississippi Transportation Commission for construction and maintenance; and such highway, together with the highways designated in Section 65-3-3, and all other laws adding links to the designated state highway system, are declared to be the state highway system of Mississippi:

     Central District - Rankin County:

A three-mile section of Old U.S. 49 beginning at U.S. 80 and extending southerly to new U.S. 49 in the City of Richland.

     (2)  The Mississippi Transportation Commission shall take over and assume responsibility for construction and maintenance of the segment of highway described under subsection (1) of this section whenever the commission certifies that such segment of highway has been brought up to commission standards and all utilities, signs, structures and other encroachments on such highway and right-of-way, are removed or relocated.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
