AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 13-5-95, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO ESTABLISH A PER DIEM FOR BAILIFFS ACCOMPANYING JURORS OVERNIGHT; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:
SECTION 1. Section 13-5-95, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:
13-5-95. In selecting overnight accommodations for jurors, the court shall provide separate housing for men and women jurors. Male bailiffs shall accompany the male jurors, and female bailiffs the female jurors. At least one (1) bailiff shall accompany each group, and the court in its sound discretion shall require as many bailiffs as are necessary. Either group may be housed in private premises if necessary. Each bailiff shall receive per diem in the amount of Sixty Dollars ($60.00) for performance of the duties under this section.
SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2002.
