AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE OUT-OF-DISTRICT COMMUNITY AND JUNIOR COLLEGE STUDENTS TO PARTICIPATE IN ATHLETIC AND OTHER EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES AT THE COMMUNITY OR JUNIOR COLLEGE IN WHICH THEY ARE ENROLLED ON THE SAME BASIS AS STUDENTS WHO RESIDE WITHIN THAT COMMUNITY OR JUNIOR COLLEGE DISTRICT; TO AUTHORIZE COMMUNITY AND JUNIOR COLLEGES TO AWARD SCHOLARSHIPS TO OUT-OF-DISTRICT STUDENTS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  (1)  Any community or junior college student who is a resident of the State of Mississippi but not of the community or junior college district in which the student is enrolled must be allowed to participate in athletic programs and other extracurricular activities at the community or junior college in which the student is enrolled on the same basis as students who reside within that community or junior college district. 

     (2)  A community or junior college district may award scholarships to students who are not residents of that community or junior college district on the same basis that scholarships are awarded to students who reside within that community or junior college district. 

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2002.
