House Bill 622

AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT WRITTEN PRESCRIPTIONS FOR EYEGLASSES AND CONTACT LENSES ISSUED TO INDIVIDUALS 18 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER DO NOT EXPIRE AND MAY BE FILLED BY ANY AUTHORIZED PRACTITIONER REGARDLESS OF WHEN THE PRESCRIPTION WAS WRITTEN; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  A written prescription by a licensed ophthalmologist or optometrist for corrective lens for eyesight, including eyeglasses and contact lenses, that is issued to an individual who is age eighteen (18) or older when the prescription is written, does not expire and is valid indefinitely.  Any practitioner who is legally authorized to fill a prescription for corrective lenses may fill any such prescription regardless of the date on which the prescription was written.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2002.
