AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 37-103-25, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO PRESCRIBE THE TUITION AT THE STATE INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER LEARNING; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  Section 37-103-25, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

     37-103-25.  (1)  The * * * amount of fees to be paid by undergraduate, resident students attending the * * * state-supported institutions of higher learning * * * of the State of Mississippi is fixed as follows:

Alcorn State University.......................... $1,602.00

Delta State University........................... 1,550.00

Jackson State University......................... 1,603.00

     Mississippi State University of

    Agriculture and Applied Science.............. 1,793.00

Mississippi University for Women................. 1,527.00

Mississippi Valley State University.............. 1,579.00

University of Mississippi........................ 1,813.00

University of Southern Mississippi............... 1,708.00

     The fees prescribed in this subsection are per each semester (fall, spring) of the school year and include the tuition and those fees that are required of all students at the respective institutions.

     (2)  The boards of trustees of the community colleges and junior colleges may prescribe the amount of fees to be paid by resident students attending the state-supported community colleges and junior colleges of the State of Mississippi.

     (3)  In prescribing the rates to be paid by residents of other states, the total fees shall not be less than the average cost per student from appropriated funds.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2002.
