AN ACT TO REQUIRE THE MISSISSIPPI DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY TO CONDUCT A STUDY REGARDING THE FEASIBILITY OF THE PURCHASE BY THE STATE OF THE PORT OF PASCAGOULA; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

     BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

     SECTION 1.  The Mississippi Development Authority shall conduct a study regarding the feasibility of the purchase by the State of Mississippi of the Port of Pascagoula.  In conducting such study, the Mississippi Development Authority may consider the factors described in Sections 59-5-15 and 59-5-17 and any other information the Mississippi Development Authority determines to be relevant to the study.  The Mississippi Development Authority may employ or contract with, or both, all necessary professionals, including, but not limited to, engineers, appraisers, consultants and other related professionals in carrying out its duties under this section.  The Mississippi Development Authority shall file the results of the feasibility study along with any recommendations regarding the purchase of the Port of Pascagoula with the Governor, the Secretary of the Senate and the Clerk of the House of Representatives not later than December 1, 2002.

     SECTION 2.  This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2002.
