REPORT OF CONFERENCE COMMITTEE

MADAM PRESIDENT AND MR. SPEAKER:

We, the undersigned conferees, have had under consideration the amendments to the following entitled BILL:

S. B. No. 2511: Highways; designate a portion of MS Highway 25 as Purple Heart Memorial Drive.

We, therefore, respectfully submit the following report and recommendation:

1. That the House recede from its Amendment No. 1.

2. That the Senate and House adopt the following amendment:

Amend by striking all after the enacting clause and inserting in lieu thereof the following:

SECTION 1. (1) That portion of Mississippi Highway 25 beginning at the Hinds/Rankin County line and extending northeasterly to the Leake/Winston County line shall be known and designated as "Military Order of the Purple Heart Drive."

(2) The Mississippi Department of Transportation shall erect and maintain appropriate signs along and approaching such highway.

SECTION 2. Section 65-3-71.57, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

65-3-71.57. (1) That portion of U.S. Interstate 20 within the State of Mississippi * * * shall be known as the "31st Infantry Division Memorial Highway."

(2) The Mississippi Department of Transportation shall erect and maintain appropriate signs along and approaching such highway.

SECTION 3. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2001.

Further, amend by striking the title in its entirety and inserting in lieu thereof the following:

AN ACT TO DESIGNATE A CERTAIN PORTION OF MISSISSIPPI HIGHWAY 25 AS "MILITARY ORDER OF THE PURPLE HEART DRIVE"; TO AMEND SECTION

65-3-71.57, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO DESIGNATE ALL OF U.S. INTERSTATE 20 WITHIN THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI AS THE 31ST INFANTRY DIVISION MEMORIAL HIGHWAY; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.
