A RESOLUTION COMMENDING RONALD EARL HANNA, DEPUTY COMMISSIONER OF INSURANCE, FOR HIS OUTSTANDING SERVICE TO THE MISSISSIPPI INSURANCE DEPARTMENT.

WHEREAS, Ronald "Ron" Earl Hanna, Deputy Commissioner of Insurance, is retiring from Mississippi state government after 25 years of service; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Earl Hanna was born on November 19, 1950, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and is the son of Mary Hanna and the late Charles Hanna of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Earl Hanna graduated from Hattiesburg High School in 1968, and furthered his education at the University of Southern Mississippi where he graduated with a bachelor of arts degree in communication and public relations; and

WHEREAS, upon graduation, Ronald Earl Hanna served as Press Secretary to Senator Thad Cochran during Cochran's tenure in the House of Representatives; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Earl Hanna subsequently worked as the first Executive Director of the Mississippi Trial Lawyers Association and joined the Mississippi Insurance Department in 1976; and

WHEREAS, in December 1995, Ronald Earl Hanna was appointed Deputy Commissioner of Insurance by Commissioner George Dale; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Earl Hanna has achieved the status of Certified Insurance Examiner (CIE) through the Insurance Regulatory Examiners Society (IRES); and

WHEREAS, Ronald Earl Hanna has been instrumental in maintaining the Insurance Department's accreditation with the National Association of Insurance Commissioners for the ensuing five years; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Earl Hanna's efforts played a major role with the Insurance Department receiving recognition from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners in December 2000, as one of 10 states recognized for successfully implementing all 11 technology-based initiatives in the State Regulation 2000 Program, bringing the total to 23 completing the program; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Earl Hanna is married to the former Gloria Jean Robinson of Utica, Mississippi, and is a member of Colonial Heights Baptist Church in Jackson, Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Ronald Earl Hanna has been a dedicated public servant who has devoted 25 years of his life to service with the Mississippi Insurance Department and has provided encouragement, sound advice and counsel to the agency:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Ronald Earl Hanna for his outstanding service to the Mississippi Insurance Department and wish him success in his future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be presented to Ronald E. Hanna and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
