A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING GRAND MASTER EDGAR BRIDGES, SR., FOR BEING ELECTED AS THE SOVEREIGN GRAND COMMANDER OF THE UNITED SUPREME COUNCIL, ANCIENT AND ACCEPTED SCOTTISH RITE OF FREEMASONRY, PRINCE HALL AFFILIATION, SOUTHERN JURISDICTION, U.S.A., INC.

WHEREAS, Edgar Bridges, Sr., is a native of Monticello, Mississippi, and is the Grand Master of the Most Worshipful Stringer Grand Lodge, F. & A.M., Prince Hall Affiliation, Jurisdiction of Mississippi; and

WHEREAS, Edgar Bridges, Sr., has been elected Sovereign Grand Commander of the United Supreme Council, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Prince Hall Affiliation, Southern Jurisdiction, U.S.A., Inc., with his headquarters in Washington, D.C., where he provides Masonic leadership for the Scottish Rite of Prince Hall Freemasonry for 22 continuous states of the United States of America and some of Western Europe and the Far East; and

WHEREAS, Edgar Bridges, Sr.'s dedication and altruism has benefited countless civic, community and educational organizations including: the United Supreme Council, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Freemasonry, Southern Jurisdiction; the Lawrence County Baptist Association; Lawrence County Extension Center of the Mississippi Baptist Seminary; Board of Trustees of McCullough High School; President's Advisory Council at Jackson State University; Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce; Educational and Recreational Association; Five County Child Development Head Start Program; Home Health Care Agency and Lawrence County Hospital; United Order of Odd Fellows of America and the Pearl River Baptist Church; and

WHEREAS, this loving father of eleven children has also been a modeled source of strength, compassion and counsel in the many lives that he has graciously touched:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we concur, honor and commend the inspirational life, generous contributions and rich legacy of Mr. Edgar Bridges, Sr., with our heartfelt gratitude for the immeasurable lifetime commitment and stability that he has provided in the quest for a better Mississippi and the call for a better society and goodwill among men, women and children, and congratulate him on his election as the Sovereign Grand Commander of the United Supreme Council, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Prince Hall Affiliation, Southern Jurisdiction, U.S.A., Inc.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to Edgar Bridges, Sr., and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
