A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING DR. ELIZABETH SARCONE FOR HER CONTRIBUTIONS TO EDUCATION IN THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI AND UPON RECEIVING THE 2001 HUMANITIES EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR AWARD.

WHEREAS, Dr. Elizabeth Sarcone attended the public schools in Lowndes County, Mississippi, and continued her education at Mississippi State College for Women, Delta State University and Vanderbilt University; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Elizabeth Sarcone has served as a professor in the Department of English at Delta State University for the past 21 years; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Elizabeth Sarcone continues to provide educational leadership to the people of Mississippi by serving as Professor of English at Delta State University; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Elizabeth Sarcone has participated in many outstanding and worthwhile Mississippi Humanities Council programs, including the Mississippi Chautauqua and the Prime Time Family Reading Program; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Elizabeth Sarcone has been recognized by the Mississippi Humanities Council as the 2001 Humanities Educator of the Year for the State of Mississippi:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend Dr. Elizabeth Sarcone for her contributions to education in the State of Mississippi and upon receiving the 2001 Humanities Educator of the Year Award.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be furnished to Dr. Elizabeth Sarcone and made available to the Capitol Press Corps.
