AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 47-5-138.1, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO EXPAND THE PROGRAMS A TRUSTY INMATE MAY PARTICIPATE IN TO EARN TRUSTY TIME ALLOWANCE; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. Section 47-5-138.1, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

47-5-138.1. In addition to any other administrative reduction of sentence, an offender in trusty status as defined by the classification committee of the Department of Corrections may be awarded a trusty time allowance of ten (10) days' reduction of sentence for each thirty (30) days of participation in an approved * * * program while in trusty status, to include, but not limited to, the following: satisfactory participation in education or instructional programs, work projects, and special incentive programs.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2001.
