AN ACT TO AMEND SECTION 9-13-9, MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972, TO REVISE THE BOND TO BE POSTED BY EACH COURT REPORTER; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. Section 9-13-9, Mississippi Code of 1972, is amended as follows:

9-13-9. The judge or chancellor shall require the court reporter to give bond in a penalty of not less than Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000.00) to be approved by the court, conditioned for the faithful discharge of his duties. The bond shall be filed in the office of the clerk of the court of any county in the district, who shall, at the cost of the court reporter, certify a copy thereof to the clerk of said court in each of the other counties of the district, to be filed and preserved in his office, and said copies shall be competent evidence in any proceedings. The bond shall be recorded at length in the bond record book of the county where the original is filed and must be in place before any court reporter, including temporary reporters, shall be allowed to commence work as a court reporter.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2001.
