AN ACT TO REQUIRE COUNTY AND MUNICIPAL JAILS TO ALLOW REASONABLE TELEPHONE USAGE TO PRETRIAL DETAINEES FOR THE PURPOSE OF CONTACTING AN ATTORNEY AND A BAIL BONDSMAN; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. Any pretrial detainee being held in a jail shall be provided reasonable opportunities at reasonable times and from time to time to contact both an attorney and a professional bail agent by telephone at the expense of the detaining jurisdiction.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after July 1, 2001.
