AN ACT TO CREATE A PROGRAM TO AID LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES IN COUNTIES HAVING A REGIONAL CORRECTIONAL FACILITY; TO PROVIDE THAT THE SHERIFF OF THAT COUNTY AND MUNICIPALITIES IN THE COUNTY MAY APPLY FOR FUNDS TO HIRE ADDITIONAL LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. There is created a program to aid law enforcement agencies in any county in which there is a regional correctional facility. The sheriff's department of the county and any municipality in the county may apply for funds under this program to hire additional law enforcement officers. The law enforcement officers may be hired using any funds appropriated by the Legislature for that purpose.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
