House Resolution 8

A RESOLUTION COMMENDING MS. CARMEN RONKEN FOR HER MANY YEARS OF OUTSTANDING COMMUNITY SERVICE.

WHEREAS, Ms. Carmen Ronken, a resident of Jackson, Mississippi, has been involved in numerous community and professional organizations as well as church activities; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Ronken received a bachelor's degree from Mississippi University for Women, a master's degree from Simmons and Harvard University Medical School and has completed post graduate work at the University of Wisconsin; and

WHEREAS, during her long and distinguished career, Ms. Ronken is a member and has held various leadership positions of many professional organizations including the American Home Economics Association, Mississippi Home Economics Association, State 4-H Advisory Council, State Extension Home Economist Association, Episom Sigma Phi Honorary Fraternity, American Women in Radio and Television, Delta Kappa Gamma and the State Nutrition Council; and

WHEREAS, in addition to her many professional organizations, Ms. Ronken has served or currently serves as a member of community organizations such as the Altrusa Club, American Association of University Women, Business and Professional Women's Club, Federated Womens Club, Hinds County Farm Bureau, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Jackson Symphony Association and has served as block chairman for the March of Dimes, the Heart Association and the Cancer Society; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Ronken is a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Jackson, Mississippi, where she serves in numerous capacities and on various committees; and

WHEREAS, at Christ United Methodist Church, Ms. Ronken is a member of the Administrative Board, former Hospitality Guest House Representative, member of the Church Visitation Committee, and an active Sunday School member; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Ronken continues to be a remarkable asset to the United Methodist Women organization at the church, where she has served as President, Vice Chairman, Program Leader, Special Projects Chairman, Supportive Community Chairman, a member of the Fund Raising Committee; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Ronken is well known for her kind, generous and loving spirit by all who have had the pleasure of knowing her; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Ronken has distinguished herself as a highly respected and faithful member of the church and has served her community in a manner which will be an exceptional model for her successors to emulate:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend Ms. Carmen Ronken for her many years of outstanding community service and express our sincere appreciation for her tireless devotion to improving the quality of life of those around her.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Ms. Carmen Ronken and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
