House Concurrent Resolution 134

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE LIFE AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF MR. GERALD WAYNE GARDNER AND EXPRESSING OUR DEEPEST SYMPATHY TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS UPON HIS PASSING.

WHEREAS, Mr. Gerald Wayne Gardner, a resident of Indianola, Mississippi, departed this life on February 14, 2001, causing a great loss to his family and friends upon his passing; and

WHEREAS, after graduating from Rolling Fork High School, Mr. Gardner received a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Mississippi State University; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Gardner owned and operated Gardner Engineering, PA in Indianola, serving as the County Engineer for Sunflower County and three other counties and as consulting engineer for several municipalities; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Gardner also worked with United Gas Pipeline Company, the United States Forest Service and Wallace Carter, Jr., Engineering; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Gardner was a member of numerous professional organizations including the American Society of Civil Engineers, the National Society of Professional Engineers, the Mississippi Engineering Society, the Mississippi Association of County Engineers, the National Association of County Engineers, the Consulting Engineering Council of Mississippi and the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors; and

WHEREAS, over the past 17 years, Mr. Gardner appeared before committees in the State Legislature promoting the State Aid Road and Bridge Program; and

WHEREAS, an active member of his community, Mr. Gardner was a member of First United Methodist Church in Indianola and participated in missions to Honduras working with the Baptist Medical and Dental Mission Group; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Gardner is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Jamison Gardner; four children, Jennifer Ruth, Reid Perry, John Christian and David Wayne; one granddaughter and a host of other relatives; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend outstanding Mississippians such as Mr. Gardner:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend the life and accomplishments of Mr. Gerald Wayne Gardner and express our deepest sympathy to his family and friends upon his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the family of Mr. Gerald Wayne Gardner and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
