House Concurrent Resolution 123

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING MS. JANICE POLK SHIVERS UPON BEING NAMED 2001 ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR.

WHEREAS, Ms. Janice Polk Shivers, assistant junior high and high school principal at Sumrall Attendance Center in Sumrall, Mississippi, has been named Mississippi's Assistant Principal of the Year for 2001 by the Mississippi Association of Secondary School Principals; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Shivers was awarded the recognition based on her willingness to take risks to help students, ability to solve problems and success in improving the school's learning environment; and

WHEREAS, after graduating from Bunker Hill High School, Ms. Shivers attended the University of Southern Mississippi, where she earned her bachelor's degree and master's degree in elementary education; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Shivers furthered her education at William Carey College where she completed certification requirements in administration, elementary administration and secondary administration; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Shivers is a member of many professional organizations including the Mississippi Association of Secondary School Principals, the Student Teaching Advisory Council, the State Special Education Committee and the National Association of Secondary School Principals; and

WHEREAS, in addition, Ms. Shivers currently serves as President of the Mississippi Association of Secondary School Principals; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence especially when evidenced by outstanding educators such as Ms. Shivers, who has dedicated over 32 years to teaching and guiding the young people of this state:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Ms. Janice Polk Shivers upon being named the 2001 Assistant Principal of the Year and express our heartiest wishes for success in all her future endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Ms. Janice Polk Shivers and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
