House Concurrent Resolution 62

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE SOUTHAVEN HIGH SCHOOL LADY CHARGERS SOFTBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE CLASS 5A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

WHEREAS, the Southaven High School Lady Chargers Softball Team finished the season with an outstanding record of 31 wins and only 6 losses; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Chargers Softball Team won the District 2, Class 5A Championship, the North Region Tournament Championship and the Class 5A State Championship; and

WHEREAS, many individual honors have been bestowed among the players, including the naming of Meredith Shackleford, Jennifer Hanna and Heather Smith to the All-State Tournament Team; and the selection of Meredith Shackleford, Lacie McCulley, Jennifer Hanna, Meagan Shackleford, Paige Wright, Maggie McEwen and Brooke Turner to the All-Conference Tournament Team; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Chargers have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Morris Hunter and Assistant Coach Wayne Hill, who have broadened the players knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution; and

WHEREAS, Head Coach Morris Hunter has brought additional honor to Southaven High School by being selected the Mississippi Association of Coaches Coach of the Year and the Chickasaw Conference Coach of the Year; and

WHEREAS, the Lady Chargers developed a winning and cooperative spirit and a high degree of sportsmanship, and their activities and attitude reflect great credit upon the individual players and their coaches and bring honor to Southaven High School; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of this Legislature to recognize and commend excellence, especially when evidenced by the young people of our state, who are its future:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we commend and congratulate the Southaven High School Lady Chargers Softball Team and Head Coach Morris Hunter and Assistant Coach Wayne Hill for their outstanding season, for winning the Class 5A State Championship and for displaying tireless devotion to their athletic endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to Southaven High School, Head Coach Morris Hunter, Assistant Coach Wayne Hill and members of the Capitol Press Corps.
