AN ACT TO AUTHORIZE THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS OF LOWNDES COUNTY AND THE GOVERNING AUTHORITIES OF THE CITY OF COLUMBUS EACH TO CONTRACT OR ENTER INTO AGREEMENT WITH THE COLUMBUS-LOWNDES HUMANE SOCIETY FOR THE PURPOSE OF ENFORCING ANIMAL CONTROL ORDINANCES OF THE COUNTY; AND FOR RELATED PURPOSES.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI:

SECTION 1. The Board of Supervisors of Lowndes County, in its discretion, and the governing authorities of the City of Columbus, in their discretion, each may contract or enter into agreement with the Columbus-Lowndes Humane Society for the purpose of enforcing animal control ordinances of the county or municipality, as the case may be. In exercising its authority under such agreements and ordinances, the Columbus-Lowndes Humane Society may enter upon private property for the purpose of pursuing and capturing estrays or wandering animals; however, neither the society nor any officer, employee or person associated with the society may exercise any authority or perform any act that may be exercised or performed only by a lawfully sworn law enforcement officer.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect and be in force from and after its passage.
